Avira Free Antivirus klarede sig bedre end 10 konkurrerende betalingsprogrammer i TÆNKs test

København, Danmark, 19. april, 2012 – IT-sikkerhedseksperten Avira har med produkterne Internet Security 2012 og Avira Free Antivirus været på testbænken sammen med 18 andre antivirusprogrammer. De to antivirusprodukter fra Avira fik betegnelsen ”bedste pakke i testen” og ”Bedste gratis – nok til de fleste”, i testen deltog 18 antivirus programmer fra flere leverandører, hvoraf de 14 var betalingsprogrammer og 4 kom som gratisprodukter.

Avira og Avira's danske distributør Liga Distribution er naturligvis meget tilfredse med Avira Internet Security 2012 og Avira Free Antivirus meget fine placering, der ses som et udtryk for Aviras tilgang til at løse den store udfordring, det er at skabe tryghed og brugervenlighed for Aviras kunder og brugere. Tettnang, Germany, October 4, 2011 – IT security expert Avira today announced the arrival of Version 2012 of its world-famous antivirus computer security software. The focus of Avira’s 2012 software product line is giving consumers, micro and small businesses more security protection while removing the complexity typically associated with Internet security. Avira’s security software protects more than 100 million people around the world by detecting and removing the latest malware; shielding customers from viruses, worms, rootkits, botnets, identity theft scams and other threats on the Internet. Version 2012’s measurable improvements include an improved user interface and installation process, more automation in the detection and removal of malware, improved usage of system resources, and an even better detection of the latest and unknown threats. “Our guiding philosophy in the design of our 2012 security software was ‘less is more’ – by which we give consumers, micro and small businesses more security protection with less manual configurations and decisions to make,” said Sorin Mustaca, product manager and data security expert at Avira. “In addition to overhauling our code, increasing speed and reducing complexity, we’ve taken on more ownership for automating security settings and resolving software conflicts to install easily and keep our users safe from tricky malware.”

Product Highlights:

More intuitive User Interfaces – A cleaner, more modern screen design with options organized by function, and a streamlined 2-click install process and automatic resolution of software conflicts during installation. Avira’s software was designed with default configurations to make installation easier, to keep the user safer, and to take the guesswork out of remaining secure. Also, users will discover that many components have been renamed so that every consumer can understand their function without reading the documentation. And best of all, a one-click “Fix Problems” button to solve any issues that might endanger users’ computers. Smarter Code – Avira software has even further increased detection rates by out-witting malware that hides from ordinary antivirus software. New detection mechanisms find rogue code that hides even deep in the operating system. Stronger Detection – All components have been fortified in order to better resist malware attacks that target antivirus software specifically. This fortification includes the ability for Avira software to function without many registry keys, better resistance against process termination and component deletion, and many other malware counter-measures. In addition to a simpler interface, smarter code, and stronger detection, Avira 2012 also focuses on support by adding Live Customer Support for all premium products. If users run into any problems, they can connect directly with a technical support engineer who will fix the problems in real time over the Internet using Avira’s new Team Viewer feature. Lastly, running two security solutions in parallel can have negative consequences on the stability of the PC and the overall experience with newly installed software. So in order to make the transition to the Avira products version 2012 as easy and painless as possible, automatic detection and removal of potentially incompatible software has been added in all installation programs. Consumers Still Have Concerns About Online Shopping Safety According to Avira Survey

Tettnang, Germany --- September 22, 2011 – An overwhelming majority – 70 percent – of consumers either don’t shop online or do so with concerns about their safety while navigating the Internet according to the most recent survey of computer users from IT security expert Avira. During a July 2011 survey of Avira users, just 30 percent of respondents felt secure enough to be worry free as they shop online. The online shopping survey was presented to Avira’s website visitors during July, 2011 with the question: Do you feel secure while shopping online?

28.62% - I shop online, but I always fear that my personal data is going to get into the wrong hands.
22.51% - I trust only well known shops or brands like Amazon or iTunes.
18.85% - Due to security concerns, I do not shop online.
15.65% - I am fine as long as the method of paying and the financial transactions are always secure.
14.36% - I feel secure - fraud with online shopping doesn't happen very often.

- 2,945 respondents with a margin of error of +/- 1.81 percent. “Because of the continued data breaches, phishing attacks, and security vulnerabilities, that get reported on almost every day, consumers have every right to not feel 100 percent safe while they shop online,” said Sorin Mustaca, data security expert from Avira. “I recommend that consumers watch for a few things in order to not become a victim of the online fraudsters:

Always check that the connection to the online store where the payment is done is secured. This can be observed first if the URL is starting with “https” and second if a small lock is present in the top left corner of the browser in the URL field (in Chrome) or the name of the website is written in a colored rectangle(in Firefox,IE). If the web browser gives any warnings about the security certificate of the website, then do not proceed to purchase anything from that website.
If you don’t know the website you plan to buy from, always check its reputation first. Search for comments from other users about that website. Searching for “ reputation” usually gives good and relevant results.
Give your financial details like credit card data only if the website is properly secured and its reputation is good.
Try to choose payment methods which don’t require payment upfront. If PayPal is an option, choose that whenever possible. Otherwise, if you’ve ensured the safety of the website you’re on and you feel good about its reputation, then pay with a credit card.
Always double check your bank accounts to make sure the amount you spent is the amount that was charged. If there is a discrepancy, contact the website where you made the purchase.”

Tettnang, Tyskland, August 15 2011 – Et stort flertal af computerbrugere skriver ikke ferieerindringer via sociale netværk, kommer en nylig undersøgelse foretaget af it-sikkerhedsekspert Avira frem til. Ved en undersøgelse i juni 2011 af Aviras egne kunder kom det frem, at overvældende 64% af respondenterne – enten ikke bruger sociale netværk i nogen form til at offentliggøre ferie information (44%), eller de tager en bevidst beslutning om ikke at indsende nogen form for feriebilleder eller andre oplysninger via sociale netværk (20,7%). 22% af de adspurgte deler kun ferieoplysninger med deres nærmeste venner, mens 13% af de adspurgte sender alle typer af information og gør den tilgængelig for alle. Ferieoplysningsundersøgelsen blev præsenteret for Aviras hjemmesidebesøgende i løbet af juni, 2011: Sommertid er ferietid. Deler du dine ferieminder via sociale netværk? 44% - Nej, jeg bruger ikke sociale netværk. 20,7% - Nej, Hvor og når jeg er på ferie, har jeg ikke plads til nogen sociale netværk. 22,2% - Ja, men jeg deler kun udvalgt indhold med mine nærmeste venner. 13,1% - Ja, selvfølgelig gør jeg det. Alt fra forberedelse til ferien selv inklusive masser af fotos og måske en film. 2.559 respondenter med en fejlmargin på ± 1,94%. "Kampen for at beskytte personlige oplysninger sikkert nok er en vedvarende bekymring, så det er forfriskende at se, at de fleste af dem, der reagerede på vores ferieinformationsundersøgelse er kloge nok til ikke bare gavmildt at give oplysninger om, hvornår de er væk fra deres hjem eller hvor de er på vej hen, "sagde Travis Witteveen, COO Market & Operations fra Avira. Avira har lavet rundspørge om Online Reputation blandt sine kunder: Er du sikker eller bare naiv?

Tettnang/München, Tyskland, 5. juli, 2011 – En ny undersøgelse Avira og Ruflotse har lavet blandt sine kunder har vist, at næsten halvdelen af respondenterne hævder, at der ikke findes nogen negative oplysninger om dem på internettet - mens den anden halvdel ikke har nogen idé, om der eksisterer skadelige info om dem og heller ikke holder styr på deres online omdømme. Ét spørgsmål, der blev præsenteret for Aviras 100 millioner kunder på verdensplan i løbet af maj 2011 var: Vær ærlig, er der nogle ubehagelige eller potentielt skadelige oplysninger om dig på internettet? A. 36% - Ingen idé, jeg har aldrig undersøgt, om noget dårligt om mig eksisterer. B. 15% - Ja, desværre. Hvis jeg vidste, hvordan det skal gøres, ville jeg slette oplysningerne med det samme. C. 6% - Ja, men jeg er faktisk ligeglad. Det generer mig ikke. D. 4% - ikke længere - jeg har slettet alle oplysninger. E. 40% - Nej, der er ingen negativ information om mig på internettet. 1.555 respondenter med en fejlmargin på plus/minus 2,49%. "Denne undersøgelse satte fokus på to hovedgrupper af Internet-brugere: dem, der bekymrer sig om deres online omdømme og dem, der ikke gider at holde styr på det," sagde Travis Witteveen, COO Market & Operations fra Avira. "Det kan være afgørende at vide, hvilke oplysninger der findes om dig online, fordi hvis den er negativ,kan det skade dit omdømme og at ikke vide, er ikke en god undskyldning i denne generation af hurtig information." Avira og Ruflotse tilbyde disse tips om sikkerhed på nettet: 1. Personlige oplysninger: Mindre er bedst! - Gør ikke alle oplysninger om dig selv tilgængelige online eller på nogen sociale medier såsom adresse, by, telefon, venner, præferencer, pårørende osv. - Hvis disse informationer er frit tilgængelige, kunne nogen med lidt held teoretisk udgive sig for dig selv på de mest sikre hjemmesider, da de spørgsmål, der bruges til at hente en adgangskode, normalt er forbundet med denne type oplysninger. 2. Passwords: Brug ikke samme password på alle dine sociale netværkssider. Brug ikke den samme adgangskode til din e-mailadresse og en vilkårlig hjemmeside eller ved skype løsning. Opbevar aldrig e-mails med adgangskoder i din e-mail-kontomapper, hvis din e-mail-konto bliver kompromitteret, så vil de andre konti være let tilgængelige. 3. Overvåg din konto: Med overvågningstjenester som Ruflotse Protect Plus kan brugerne overvåge deres egne navne samt deres børns navne og rutinemæssigt være opdateret om nye poster på internettet.

Næsten halvdelen af alle slutbrugere er tilfredse med deres spam-filtre på deres PC'er eller bærbare computere og ellers er mange afhængige af deres internetudbyders (ISPs) spamfilter. Anti-Virus Users Are Restless, Avira Survey Finds

Tettnang, Germany, December 16, 2010 – IT security expert Avira conducted a consumer security survey of its computer users worldwide in November which showed that more than 60 percent of respondents have tried multiple anti-virus products over the course of a year. In addition, 25 percent of the users admitted to turning off their anti-virus protection because they thought those programs were slowing down their computers.

The sample size of the consumer security survey was 9,091 with a margin of error between 0.28 and 1 percent. The questions were posed to Avira’s 100+ million customers worldwide, giving the survey an international flavor. Here are the top findings from Avira’s November security survey:

62.84% – Have tried multiple security products in a one-year span on the same computer.
25.15% – Turned off the anti-virus software because I had the feeling it was slowing down my computer.
12.01% – Thought about not using the Internet because of safety reasons.

It’s not surprising that consumers try multiple security products each year since everyone is trying to find the right security product which can effectively balance protection and a computer’s resource usage” said Sorin Mustaca, data security expert of Avira. “The scary take-away from this survey is that 25 percent of the respondents admitted to just turning off their security products because they feel that it hurt the performance of the machine. That’s not a good idea because such a practice leaves the computer totally exposed to the even simplest of viruses, allowing the bad guys to include it in a botnet used to distribute malware and phishing. It is a clear sign for the vendors that even more care has to be taken in order not to overload the security software with features which may have a great impact on system performance. In the end, when it comes to security, it is better to have minimal protection which goes unnoticed than protection with all whistles and bells which the user deactivates in order to be able to use his computer.”

Avira detects Exploit for new Flash Player Vulnerability

A so-called zero-day vulnerability within Adobe’s Flash Player gets currently exploited, warns IT-security specialist Avira. An update to fix this is announced for the end of the month – until then, users need protection by anti-malware solutions. Adobe has confirmed the newly discovered and already actively abused vulnerability within the Flash Player. As there is no update available yet, users can get infected just by browsing the Internet – malicious Flash objects can get embedded by cyber criminals in nearly all websites, for example by manipulating advertisements. Avira anti-malware solutions protect from this threat, though. The newly discovered exploit has already been detected by Avira AntiVir with heuristic routines as HEUR/HTML.Malware. For the current malware, a detection by the name EXP/Flash.CY has been added. The malicious Flash is downloading further malware to take control over the infected computer – but users of Avira anti-malware solutions are safe. Further details about this malware can be found in Avira’s TechBlog. The basic protection of Avira AntiVir Personal detects and blocks the dangerous malware. Avira AntiVir Premium offers a higher protection level for 19,95 €. The integrated WebGuard and MailGuard block the malware even before it reaches the web browser or mail program. The Avira Premium Security Suite for 39,95 € also protects from these threats and additionally contains a firewall, parental control and a backup solution – so that users can restore their important data.

In addition, they can also benefit from a reliable security solution that is always up to speed because Avira constantly updates the AMES cloud to ensure comprehensive protection against malware. "On average, over 90 percent of all emails are spam! In addition to the security threat posed by viruses, spam also affects companies in many other ways. Easy integration, comprehensive control

By redirecting the company domain name as a cloud solution, Avira Managed Email Security acts as a veritable security buffer for the company network. Reliable security solutions

In order to provide reliable protection against spam, viruses and other threats, AMES relies on internally developed technologies, such as the heuristic ProTAG scanner and the HICAR module used to scan images. Combined with traditional Avira Antivirus technology, these are reliable tools for malware detection. The heuristic ProTAG scanner, in particular, identifies new viruses faster than conventional methods. ProTAG scans the email traffic for patterns and behaviors that may indicate malware. That’s how AMES is able to detect infected emails long before a new virus update is available for locally installed antivirus software.

Avira Managed Email Security is already available from authorized Avira Channel Partners. Licensing depends on the number of users and is provided for 5 users or more. Available contract terms are 12, 24 and 36 months.
As an example, the cost for 250 users is € 21 per license for one year or roughly € 50 for a three year contract. This helps small businesses with 50 or less users to benefit from comprehensive AMES protection with an annual investment of only € 1,100.

The official release of "Version 10", the latest Avira products, is scheduled for the next weeks. New versions will be published for the Avira AntiVir desktop products under Windows (Avira AntiVir Personal, Premium, Premium Security Suite and Professional), Avira AntiVir Server Windows, the Avira AntiVir Unix products Professional and Server and the Avira Security Management Center.
Since Avira Version 10 Release in March (German, English) we´ve announced the release of Service Pack 1 for Avira AntiVir Version 10. Service Pack 1 improves performance, detection and stability. With the exception of Avira AntiVir Personal, all Avira AntiVir desktop products for Windows will be supplied with the new, behavior-based Avira AntiVir ProActiv detection technology. This detects and combats system attacks in real-time. The Avira AntiVir ProActiv Community also enables users to employ an extended online scan of suspect files, and then re-integrates results into the system. Also new is a generic system repair tool, so that damage also can be repaired without requiring a special repair script. As an on-access scanner, AntiVir Guard now blocks all detections as standard, removes malware and repairs the system. Another new feature in Avira AntiVir Professional is the integrated Avira Desktop FireWall, which previously was only available in the Avira Premium Security Suite. Naturally, this new module can be managed centrally by means of the SMC. In the new version, the Windows Server scans VMWare images if these are offline. This also makes it possible to provide protection for scenarios in which the server functions as a host for virtualized desktops. Scheduled Scans:
A new feature of Avira Professional products for Unix systems is the ability to create scheduled scans.

File Exclusions:
Files can now be excluded from scanning based on parameters set by the User, including naming convention and file-type extension. This enables Users and Administrators to skip files that are known to be safe, and reduced scan-time.

Unix products
Avira will also launch new versions of the Avira AntiVir Professional and Server solutions for Unix. Both systems now are capable of sending SNMP traps for security related procedures, making them “visible” in large software management systems, for example. Another new feature is the option to perform scheduled scans. Avira expanded options to send messages in response to specific feedback from the scanner and link these to specific actions. The on-access scanner now allows files to be excluded from scanning on the basis of their name or file extension. The automation built into the new Version 2.5 makes administrators' work much easier. An ADS/LDAP system and SMC security environment can be compared automatically. Another new feature is the option to automatically assign every new computer in the SMC with a defined Avira AntiVir product, thereby ensuring its protection. It is now also possible to use several Internet Update Managers in the SMC and to assign these to selected groups so that the updated network traffic is better controlled. The new Avira AntiVir Exchange edition - Version 8.1 - has been available since the beginning of February. Support for Version 7.x will be discontinued as of 28.02.2011 so it is important for our customers to upgrade; we ask that customers who are still using Version 7.x look into this issue.
