Novell Product Announcement
Number: 7220 Span of Distribution: MLA and VLA in EMEA Confidential Until: Not Applicable Novell® LDAP Proxy 1 Novell is pleased to announce the availability of Novell LDAP Proxy 1 to all customers worldwide. Product Information Novell LDAP Proxy 1 is a reverse proxy that helps you to manage directory servers and LDAP traffic efficiently. Novell LDAP Proxy 1 can be easily integrated with an existing LDAP directory infrastructure to further enhance the security, scalability and availability of LDAP v3 Directory servers such as Novell eDirectory. The following are the benefits of using Novell LDAP Proxy 1: - Session Management: A single instance of Novell LDAP Proxy 1 will be able to handle several LDAP servers and applications thereby achieving ease of deployment
- High-Availability of Back-End Servers: Provides dynamic load balancing and automatic fail-over capabilities that ensures high-availability and scalability of directory infrastructure
- Fault Tolerance: Able to detect slow responding server and servers which are down and transparently migrate connections
- Load Balancer: Protect and hide the back-end directory services and effectively distribute load among back-end directories
- Enhanced Security and Access Control: Provides flexible and extensible identity-based policies; administrators can have granular control over various aspects, for all or specific set of users, including:
- Acts as a directory firewall using flexible network restriction policies
- Request denying to restrict operations performed by non-admin users
- Request re-encoding to enforce search time limit or size limit
- Information hiding to hide containers and block certain attributes and object classes
- Data Consistency: Allows access to the latest directory data regardless of the distributed nature of a directory infrastructure. Schema mapping enables you to have multiple views of the same Directory Information Tree (DIT), based on identity; hence, applications need not change when directory infrastructure changes
- Centralized Auditing: Acts as a single point of auditing to minimize cost and reduce the complexity of the directory systems
- Live Monitoring: Live monitoring helps to generate a graphical view of the on-going activities at the proxy server and back-end directory servers; irrespective of the type of the back-end servers, the same auditing and monitoring solution can be used
- Graphical Trend Analysis: Enables to obtain a graphical view of the trend for historical data
