Number: 7259 Span of Distribution: VLA and MLA in EMEA Confidential Until: Not Applicable Sentinel 7.0 Novell is pleased to announce the availability of Sentinel 7.0 to all customers worldwide. Sentinel simplifies threat detection and speeds analysis and response, helping security personnel to safeguard sensitive data and assets, ease demonstration of compliance, and strengthen security operations. Sentinel makes it easier to identify threats to sensitive data and assets by providing actionable security events enriched with environmental context, enabling rapid response and remediation. With integrated, one-click search and reporting, Sentinel lowers the time, cost, and effort of complying with data access regulations while delivering improved, real-time visibility into your overall strength of security and state of compliance. Available as conventional software or an optional virtual software appliance, Sentinel can be rapidly deployed at reduced cost to compress time to value and efficiently grow your security management coverage. Key new features include: - Anomaly Detection - Create baselines of 'normal' behavior in your IT environment to allow for detection of anomalous activities
- Unified Single Solution - Log management and event management capabilities are combined in a single unified product
- High Performance Two-Tiered Storage - Efficient, file-based event storage tier is optimized with 10:1 compression for long-term archival of events while allowing the flexibility to sync events to a traditional relational database
- Graphical Rule-Builder - Quickly build and test event correlation rules using the events collected in your environment to deliver improved threat detection capabilities
- Distributed Search - Search events not only on local Sentinel servers but also on other Sentinel or Sentinel Log Manager servers from a single, centralized console
- Optional Ready-to-Run Software Appliance - Delivered as a VMWare, Xen or ISO image, and supported on the major hypervisors, including Hyper-V
Licensing Coincident with the Sentinel 7.0 release comes the introduction of a new licensing model - the Enterprise Events Per Second (EPS) Licensing Model. Enterprise EPS allows customers to purchase the product based upon the number of events they need to collect across their entire environment. The customer may deploy whatever Sentinel servers and components such as correlation engines, collector managers, etc. are required, providing a very flexible and extensible architecture. In addition, Sentinel Log Manager may also be deployed provided it is connected via Sentinel Link. Additional information regarding the new licensing model will become available after Sentinel 7.0 ships and also can be found within the Sentinel 7.0 End User Licensing Agreement (EULA). All new Sentinel 7.0 customers must purchase via the Enterprise EPS Licensing Model. Existing Sentinel and Sentinel Rapid Deployment customers may remain on their respective licensing models and continue to purchase additional Sentinel servers, devices and ongoing maintenance. Similarly, Security Manager customers may continue to purchase additional Security Manager software, devices and ongoing maintenance. Any existing Sentinel, Sentinel Rapid Deployment and Security Manager customers that wish to migrate to the Enterprise Events Per Second model should contact their sales representative for assistance. Upgrade Details Customers that wish to upgrade to Sentinel 7.0 from previous Sentinel releases should contact their sales representative or partner for upgrade details.
