Part Description Updates for Sentinel-Related Accessory Part Numbers 
Novell is pleased to announce an update for part description for Sentinel-Related Accessory to all customers worldwide.

 

 With the release of Sentinel 7, the version numbers in the part descriptions for the Sentinel-related accessories such as Smart Plug-ins, Collector Types, and Exploit Detection & Advisor Subscription will be removed since these accessories function with various versions of Sentinel including: Sentinel 6.1, Sentinel 7 and Sentinel Rapid Deployment. The goal of removing the version numbers is to clarify the accessories' compatibility with various version of Sentinel, thus reducing partner and customer confusion. 

 

Product Information
As an example, the part description “Sentinel 6.1 Smart Plug-ins” will drop the version number and become “Sentinel Smart Plug-ins”. The remaining accessory part number descriptions will be modified in the same fashion.

Extension and Expansion of Upgrade-End User Computing-Promotion

The customer is entitled to upgrade one, two or three products for a special discount. ZENworks Application Virtualization 9.0
Novell is pleased to announce the availability of ZENworks Application Virtualization 9.0 to all customers worldwide. Product Information
Key features of this release include:
  1. Web-services hosted application templates. ZAV templates are now hosted on an internet-facing web-service rather than a fixed repository. This allows for updates to templates and recipes to be made outside of product releases. This major update will enable the ZAV application library to grow much quicker based on public demand.
  2. Harvesting applications using recipes. ZAV 9.0 introduces a new method for packaging applications. ZAV Studio scans the target endpoint and finds all applications that match a managed recipe list. The customer can then select the applications they require and ZAV Studio will harvest the files on the endpoint to build the application with the customer's configuration automatically included.
  3. Juke-boxing support for streamed applications. Using ZAV 9.0 it will be possible to have multiple icons (ZENworks or Standalone web URLs) referring to the same stream content but with different triggers. For example, the customer could have one stream file for Office but have access points for Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc
  4. Offline support for streamed applications. ZAV 9.0 will allow streamed applications to be launched offline if they are configured to be registered to Windows.
  5. Securing applications based on Active Directory. ZAV 9.0 will allow customers to limit applications to run only where the current user is a member of a specified Active Directory domain or a member of a specified Active Directory User Group. This is very useful for customers that do not have ZENworks Configuration Management and want to control application sprawl based on user-identity.
  6. Custom Shims. ZENworks today offers a built in shim that limits applications to ZENworks managed devices. In ZAV 9.0, as well as an option to limit to Active Directory, customers and partners will be able to create their own shims and use them with virtualized applications to control application launch behavior

Novell announces an update to NPA 7250-7252 regarding the release of GroupWise 2012 to all customers worldwide. The effective date has changed to 12 December 2011.

Novell Dynamic File Services Gets New Capabilities
Novell is pleased to announce the availability of Novell Dynamic Files Services version 2.0 to all customers worldwide. A component of Novell File Management Suite, Dynamic File Services improves archiving capabilities for Microsoft Active Directory environments. Dynamic File Services provides intelligent tiering of file storage.

New capabilities in this release include:

  • File archiving for Microsoft network shares, iSCSI targets, and NAS devices from NetApp, and EMC
  • Web-based file retention reviews for stale archived data
  • Schedule and deliver notifications for archive and retention reviews

Novell Dynamic File Services can only be purchased through the Novell File Management Suite.
